Misconceptions About Starting in AI
Many people assume that launching an AI business requires creating a SaaS (software-as-a-service) product, securing significant funding, or developing a groundbreaking idea.
While SaaS models can be lucrative, they demand large upfront investments and connections with venture capitalists, something not accessible to everyone.
Instead, the agency model provides a more practical starting point.
If you don’t have any previous knowledge in coding and development, even then you can start an AI business.
It’s really a huge misconception that AI businesses are for developers as they can easily do a career transition.
And Most importantly, if you think that you need to take some 6-12 months long online programs and professional certificates like the IBM AI Engineering on Coursera, you are wrong.
Remember that we are talking about starting an AI business, and not securing an AI job.
So, What is an AI Agency?
An AI agency involves offering tailored solutions to clients, requiring minimal initial investment compared to SaaS. The focus is on solving client problems using AI tools and technologies, making it accessible even for beginners.
The Demand for AI Solutions
Millions of businesses worldwide are actively seeking AI solutions to enhance efficiency, outpace competitors, and capitalize on technological advancements. This demand forms the foundation of the AI agency model. Companies are willing to pay for AI expertise and customized solutions to improve operations, automate tasks, and gain insights from data.
The Three Core Challenges of Starting an AI Agency
Launching an AI agency comes with its own set of challenges. There are three key problems that need to be addressed:
1. Technical Expertise
You need a solid understanding of AI tools, technologies, and applications. Whether you develop this expertise yourself or hire skilled professionals, technical knowledge is non-negotiable.
You need to have some kind of knowledge to offer AI solutions to businesses and individuals.
2. Lead Flow
Generating consistent leads is essential to keep your agency afloat.
This is not just a challenge in AI , no matter which services you are providing and which business you are running, You need to have a reliable system for attracting potential clients, whether through outreach, networking, or content marketing.
3. Credibility and Authority
In a space filled with skepticism, clients need to trust that you can deliver results.
Establishing credibility through experience, testimonials, and a visible track record is crucial.
You need to make your your clients trust you!
The Strategy to Solve These Challenges
To overcome these challenges and build a successful AI agency, we can take a three-step approach:
1. Learn the stuff
Focus on mastering a narrow, specific area of AI. Instead of trying to become a generalist, start with a niche where you can gain expertise quickly.
Being a generalist like me can be rewarding , but here I will suggest you to select a specific niche for your agency.
I am currently offering services as a Web Developer, Graphic Designer and a writer, and I am planning to get started with AI also.
My Plan:
I have been taking AI courses about ML, DL and AI from different e-learning platforms, but here by learning the stuff, I am not asking you to take the courses, things are pretty simple here, you just need to have some practical knowledge, I will discuss this topic in depth and outline what you should learn.
For instance, you can begin by building custom knowledge chatbots. By specializing in a single area, you can establish yourself as an expert more efficiently.
2. Share Your Journey
Document your learning process and share it on platforms like LinkedIn, YouTube, or blogs. This not only demonstrates your expertise but also helps build your credibility and attract potential clients. Regular updates about your progress will establish you as a reliable voice in the industry.
3. Offer Free Consulting
As you build your expertise and audience, offer free consulting calls to convert interest into paying clients. By showcasing your knowledge and understanding their needs, you can close deals and start generating income.
The Key to Quick Success
Narrow Expertise is the key to success.
When starting out, avoid the temptation to tackle broad AI topics. Instead, choose a specific niche and become an expert in that area. Whether it’s text-based agents, voice-based systems, or another specialized application, focusing narrowly allows you to deliver high-quality solutions and build a reputation quickly.
